Quatrième de couverture

24 le Mans®

90th edition

First of all, the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was marked by a massive return of spectators after two years of restrictions. The public was rewarded for its patience by an action-packed race with, in particular, a no-holds-barred duel between the Toyota GR010 Hybrids. After no. 7 in 2021, no. 8 had the honour of offering the Japanese manufacturer its fifth outright victory in the Sarthe. Ryo Hirakawa clinched his first win on his first appearance while it was Brendon Hartley's third and above all, Sébastien Buemi's fourth, who joined a select club consisting of the great Henri Pescarolo, Olivier Gendebien and Yannick Dalmas. The other major exploit of this year's race is down to Jim Glickenhaus. The whimsical American finished fourth last year on his first outing in the Le Mans classic and this year he scored that podium finish he's dreamed of for so long !

And let's congratulate Jota on its extraordinary performance in LMP2 in what was essentially an incredibly . competitive single-make category as the English team's two cars finished on the podium. The works Porsche 911 RSR-19 driven by Frédéric Makowiecki-Richard Lietz- Gianmaria Bruni will go down in the history books as the last winner of the GTE Pro category much adored by the fans, but which was having its swansong in the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans. And the TF Sport Aston Martin managed to overcome a tenacious challenge from Porsche to win the GTE Am category.

You'll find all these stories and much more in this annual told through hundreds of specially selected photos. In addition, it contains all you want to know about the entries, regulations and the secrets of the 2022 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Biographie

Thibaut Villemant
He has been a car buff ever since he was a kid and attended his first 24 Hours of Le Mans aged five ! After studying at Nanterre University in the Parisian region, he joined AutoHebdo in 2009. He became a leading reporter and assistant chief editor up until June 2021. During those years Jean-Marc Teissedre took him under his wing and in 2014 asked him to join the team of writers working on the official annual of the Sarthe twice-round-the-clock race. Today, Thibaut works as a consultant for the L'Équipe TV channel on the WEC races - including the 24 Hours of Le Mans - while collaborating with the benchmark site Endurance-lnfo.com and hosting a Youtube channel dedicated to car enthusiasts called Once Upon A Car.

Jean-Marc Teissedre
Scale-models led the young teacher to discover his true vocation and he became one of the best - if not the best - endurance racing specia-lists. His new calling coincided - and it was no coincidence - with the launch of AutoHebdo in 1976 ! He remained faithful to the magazine throughout his career and it made him into a major figure in the milieu. However, his day job didn't prevent him from investing his talent and enthusiasm in all the major books dedicated to his speciality, including this annual since 1978 on which he's worked with the late Christian Moity, Alain Bienvenue and Thibaut Villemant. In addition to his rigour as a true professional he brings the meticulousness of a model maker, which he's always been, to his work, as he also created the monthly revue Auto Modelisme and only relinquished the role of its chief editor a short time ago.
