Cet ouvrage présente les trois premières sessions du concours européen gau :di, Student Competition on Sustainable Architecture : projets lauréats et prototypes. « Minimum House », « Urban Loft », « Market Hall » : en répondant à ces thèmes, les lauréats se sont exprimés comme de futurs architectes mais aussi comme de jeunes citoyens. Derrière un projet ou une maquette, il y a une vision et des aspirations, bien d'actualité et radicales : comment répondre aux besoins de l'habitat ? quels liens tisser entre un bâtiment et son site, sa société, ses ressources ? comment fédérer les citoyens dans les métropoles contemporaines ? Les travaux des lauréats et les réflexions qu'ils ont suscitées témoignent de l'émergence en architecture d'une nouvelle pédagogie, participative, qui se définit et se confronte au réel par l'essai.
This book presents the winning projects and prototypes from the first three sessions of the Gau :di European Student Competition on Sustainable Architecture. In developing their responses to the three themes, « Minimum House », « Urban Loft » and « Market Hall », the competition winners expressed themselves not only as future architects but also as young citizens. Behind every project or model one can find a vision and aspirations which are as contemporary as they are radical : How do we respond to housing needs ? What are the links between a building and its site, society and resources ? How can the citizens of the contemporary metropolis be brought together ? The works and the reflections of the prize winners are evidence of the emergence of a new participative approach to the teaching of architecture which uses making as a means of addressing real issues.
Jana Revedin est architecte PhD et professeure au Blekinge Institute of Technology en Suède, où elle occupe la chaire Architecture and Design. Elle est l'auteur de nombreuses publications sur la théorie architecturale contemporaine, dans le champ des méthodes et des outils des participative sustainable processes. En 2006, elle a été sélectionnée pour le commissariat européen du European Gau :di Student Competition, pour lequel elle a créé le concept pédagogique d'architecture à l'essai.
Marie-Helène Contal est architecte et directeur-adjoint de l'Institut français d'architecture à Paris. En 2006, elle a lancé dans le cadre du programme européen « Culture 2000 » l'European Gau :di Student Competition. Cette action participe à sa veille critique sur l'architecture internationale et ses nouveaux rôles face à la transition vers les modes de développement « soutenables ».
Margaux Minier est titulaire de masters en philosophie, en histoire de l'architecture, et en ingénierie culturelle. Depuis 2008, elle coordonne à l'Institut français d'architecture des programmes de coopération internationale au sujet de l'architecture éco-responsable, animés par un réseau d'experts. Chargée du montage des expositions et des relations avec les partenaires locaux, elle a piloté les projets gau :di pour les Biennales d'architecture de Venise en 2008, 2010 et 2012.
Jana Revedin is an architect PhD and holds the Professorship of Architecture and Design at Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden. She is the author of numerous publications on contemporary architectural theory, focusing on the methods and tools of participative sustainable processes. In 2006 she was appointed Curator of the European Gau :di Student Competition and she is the creator of its pedagogical making concept.
Marie-Helène Contal is an architect and the Deputy Director of the Institut Français d'Architecture in Paris. In 2006 she launched the European Gau :di Student Competition on behalf of the European programme « EU Culture 2000 ». The competition brings together her ongoing critical work in the area of international architecture with a new focus on the role of the architect in the face of the move towards sustainability.
Margaux Minier holds master's degrees in philosophy, architectural history and cultural engineering. Since 2008 she has been coordinated, from within the Institut Français d'Architecture, international programmes of cooperation in the area of ecological and sustainable architecture led by a network of experts. She was gau :di project manager at the Venice Architecture Biennales of 2008, 2010 and 2012, responsable for the organisation of the exhibitions and relations with local partners.
