Second volume de cette collection de livres d'art consacrée aux images inédites de l'âge d'or de l'automobile, puisées dans les archives inexploitées de l'agence photographique DPPI, Car Racing 1966 s'intéresse particulièrement aux pilotes à une époque où ces trompe-la-mort font figure de héros. D'où de nombreux portraits. Au beau milieu du fracas de tonnerre mécanique des Trente Glorieuses, les circuits de sport automobile sont autant d'arènes contemporaines.
« Car Racing » est née de l'envie de faire revivre ces sensations. Courses d'endurance comme aux 24 Heures du Mans ou championnats de monoplaces, autant d'épreuves qui contribuent à écrire la légende en lettres d'or. Tout près, au contact, une poignée de photographes passionnés va donner naissance à l'agence DPPI. Comme dans le premier opus, Car Racing 1965, les reproductions sont agrémentées des anecdotes et souvenirs du photographe Manou Zurini et du journaliste Johnny Rives, deux acteurs également légendaires de l'époque.
The second volume in this collection of art books devoted to unpublished photographs of the golden age of automobiles, hand-picked from the archives of the DPPI photo agency, takes a closer look at drivers in an era when these death-defying figures held hero status. Hence the many portraits herein. Amidst the thunderous mechanical rumblings of the post-war boom, motorsport tracks were the colosseums of their day.
Car Racing was born of a desire to breathe new life into these sensational moments. Endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans or single seater championships, all these events contributed to a history of motorsport that is the stuff of legend. Inspired by close contact, a handful of inspired photographers were to give rise to the Agence DPPI. As in the first volume, the images reproduced are paired with anecdotes and recollections courtesy of photographer Manou Zurini and the journalist Johnny Rives, likewise legendary figures of the period.
