Classement diagonal est un livre d'artiste qui met en forme des matériaux iconographiques et textuels liés au champ de la bataille de Waterloo, premier bien belge préservé en vertu d'une loi. Il sera idéalement classé dans la section consacrée aux livres d'Art. Comme il se réfère à un site protégé, cet ouvrage pourrait également être rangé dans la bibliothèque consacrée au Patrimoine. Et puisqu'il utilise des archives et des faits historiques, sa place sur la table des livres d'Histoire serait admissible. D'une manière plus oblique, qu'il évoque golf et mini-golf pourrait même le porter sur la table Sports et Loisirs. Mais l'activation de récits enfouis convoquant des faits fort divers et l'importance donnée au rapport entre les choses pourrait conduire à le placer entre chacun de ces lieux possibles : sans socle ni piédestal, posé à même le sol.

Diagonal listing is an artist's book that gives shape to iconographic and textual material related to Waterloo battlefield, the first Belgian property to receive its own conservation law. It would fit ideally in a section dedicated to art books. Considering, however, that it also refers to a protected historical site, this publication could also be organized on the shelf for Culture and Heritage. And since it is based on archives and historical fact, it would be equally admissible for it to sit on the History table. Take it a stretch further, and you will find that the book also brings up golf and mini-golf, making it a good candidate for the Sports and Leisure pile. But through its activation of long-repressed narratives and the wide variety of facts they bring forth, and seen the weight given to the relationship between things, this book's rightful place may vary well be somewhere amidst all of the aforementioned possibilities : not on a pedestal or a base, but quite simply placed on the floor.
