La collection « Ateliers d'Artistes » a pour objet d'introduire le lecteur au coeur de la création de l'artiste : vivre le travail de celui qui invente des formes et des objets, en suivre la démarche, apprendre à lire son oeuvre représente la plus précieuse et la plus difficile des entreprises. C'est ce que propose chacun des livres de cette collection. Abondamment illustrés, ils dévoilent l'atmosphère d'un atelier ou d'un lieu autour d'entretiens qui restituent la pensée de l'artiste, peintre ou sculpteur.
Artiste sud-coréen, peintre et sculpteur universel, Lee Ufan appartient au cercle très fermé des plus grands créateurs de notre temps. Lauréat du Praemium Imperial 2001 dans la catégorie peinture, Lee Ufan représente son pays à la Biennale de Venise 2007. Professeur invité à l'Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, il fait également l'objet d'une rétrospective à la Galerie du Jeu de Paume en 1997. Philosophe et lettré de tradition classique, Lee Ufan vit et travaille entre Paris, New York et Tokyo. Tout en formes épurées, son oeuvre en progrès, au sens le plus profond de l'expression « work in progress », est aujourd'hui présent dans les plus prestigieux musées du monde, ainsi que les plus importantes collections privées.
The collection « Ateliers d'Artistes » has as it's objective the introduction of the reader to the core of the artistic act. It proposes to enable the rigorous and exalting enterprise of living in the work of the one who invents forms and objects, of following the creative process and learning how to read an oeuvre with insight. Each of the books of this collection is an invitation to such an undertaking. Abundantly illustrated with photographs that reveal the atmosphere of a site, each book relies on conversations which restitute the painter or sculptor's thoughts.
A South Korean artist, painter and universal sculptor, Lee Ufan belongs to a select circle of the greatest creators of our time. Lee Ufan is a visiting professor at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and he was the subject of a retrospective exhibition at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume in 1997. Winner of the 2001 Praemium Imperiale in the category of painting, Lee Ufan represented his country at the 2007 Venice Biennale. In June 2011, an exhibition of new works will be dedicated to his career at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. A philosopher and scholar of classical tradition, Lee Ufan lives and works between Asia, Europe, and the United States. All in refined lines, his works in progress - in the deepest sense of the expression « work in progress » - is represented by the most prestigious international museums, as well as the most important private collections.
