Les défis du vitrail contemporain
La création contemporaine du vitrail dans les cathédrales, églises, chapelles ou dans le domaine civil a connu depuis 1945 des bouleversements sans précédent qui touchent autant à sa compléxité artistique et technique qu'à son cadre institutionnel. Cet ouvrage a pour ambition d'éclairer le public sur les nouveaux défis du vitrail contemporain. Des études de cas nous font voyager en France, tout particulièrement dans l'Aube, département fondateur de la Cité du vitrail à Troyes et organisateur des Premières rencontres internationales du vitrail, mais aussi en Espagne, en Suisse ou au Brésil. La création y est appréhendée du point de vue de ses différents acteurs - peintres verriers, artistes, historiens d'art - sans oublier à Villenauxe-la-Grande, lieu de création de l'artiste David Tremlett, de donner la parole aux habitants, les premiers concernés par cet art du vitrail que tout un chacun peut s'approprier.
The challenges of contemporary stained glass
Contemporary creation in the stained glass windows of cathedrals, churches, chapels or civilian contexts has seen some unprecedented changes since 1945, which have been concerned not only with its artistic and technical complexity but also its institutional framework. This book aims to enlighten the public on the new challenges faced by contemporary stained glass.
The case studies here take us on a tour of France, and in particularly to Aube, the founding department of the Cité du Vitrail in Troyes and organiser of the Premières Rencontres Internationales du Vitrail, but it also takes us to Spain, Switzerland and Brazil.
Creation is considered from the various viewpoints of the different players involved - painter-glassmakers, artists, art historians - without forgetting in Villenauxe-la-Grande (the site of the artist David Tremlett's work), to let the inhabitants have their say too, as they are the first to be concerned by this art of stained glass which each and everyone is free to appropriate in their own way.
