Quatrième de couverture

Loire Valley Castles

Chambord, Chenonceau, Blois, Azay-le-Rideau are among the best known castles in the Loire Valley. For many, they embody the essence of Renaissance architecture in France.

Actually, all castles in the Loire Valley were not built during Renaissance times. Their construction spans from the beginning of the second millennium up until the 19th century. Likewise, all Loire Valley castles are not built on the banks of the Loire.

From Gien castle upriver down to the dukes of Brittany's castle in Nantes, through the Orleans countryside, the Blois region, Beauce, Touraine and Anjou, this book will introduce you to the history and architecture of a hundred fortresses and palaces built on the banks of river Loire and its tributaries.

From East to West, you will discover all the major sites as well as many lesser-known yet most endearing and historically rich castles and palaces.
