For every voyage, a vehicle. For the stars, a spacecraft, to the abyss, a « bathyal station ». The great depths remain distant planets of a neighbouring galaxy. 100, 120, 140 meters... the distances are paltry yet insurmountable. This underwater world is neither close nor distant it is simply elsewhere. To reach it is to step into a parallel universe. Laurent Ballesta and his companions travelled far, without really leaving. They were on their own doorstep, in the deep Mediterranean, not returning to the open air for 28 days. In the twilight of the still untouched depths, they found dazzling life forms. Down there where few divers venture, they discovered lush oases that seem to have escaped destruction and extinction. For some species, these are the last refuges on a coast under intense environmental pressure. Here are the portraits of those unknown survivors and the landscapes of their endangered habitats. More than a new world, it is another planet. The Mediterranean Planet.
