Geoemyda Spinosa
Spinose Land Terrapin
The spiny turtle is a freshwater turtle native to Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia). A virgin forest turtle with nocturnal habits, it lives in a dark and humid environment, in mountainous or hilly regions. Living near small, slow streams of shallow water, the spiny turtle regularly goes into the water, where it can remain all day long, hidden among floating fallen leaves. In addition to the destruction of its natural habitat, the species is endangered by the pet trade and the Asian food market.
