Anatomiquement correct
Nous devons énormément à Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797-1849), dont l'Atlas d'anatomie humaine a non seulement fait date dans l'histoire médicale mais demeure aussi l'un des traités anatomiques les plus complets et les mieux illustrés jamais publiés. Bourgery commence à travailler à ce magnifique atlas en 1830, en collaboration avec l'illustrateur Nicolas Henri Jacob (1783-1871). Il faudra près de 20 ans de dévouement et d'efforts pour terminer le traité. Le dernier des huit volumes n'est publié en son intégralité que cinq ans après la mort de Bourgery. Les lithographies, mises en couleur à la main, sont remarquables par leur esthétisme et reflètent un mélange d'observation directe de laboratoire et de recherche en matière d'illustration. We owe a great debt to Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797-1849) for his Atlas of Anatomy, which was not only a massive event in medical histoiy, but also one of the most comprehensive and beautifully illustrated anatomical treatises ever published. Bourgery began work on his magnificent atlas in 1830 in cooperation with illustrator Nicolas Henri Jacob (1783-1871). Completion of the treatise required nearly two decades of dedication, and the last of the treatise's eight volumes was not published in its entirety until five years after Bourgery's death. Jacob's spectacular hand-colored lithographs are remarkable for their clarity, color, and aesthetic appeal, reflecting a combination of direct laboratory observation and illustrative research. The images offer exceptional anatomical insight, and will be fascinating for anyone interested in the workings and wonder of the human body.
