Les premières fouilles du site d'Athribis, entreprises par une mission britannique, remontent à 1906-1907 ; le chantier est repris de 1981 à 1996 par l'inspectorat de S(...)h(...)(...) dépendant de l'Organisation des antiquités égyptiennes. Depuis 2003, une mission germano-égyptienne, dirigée par les éditeurs du volume et par Christian Leitz, a la responsabilité d'un projet commun de documentation et de conservation des monuments.

Le présent ouvrage est le premier des rapports archéologiques appelés à paraître dans la série consacrée aux vestiges d'Athribis, publiée sur les presses de l'Ifao. Il comprend :

1. Un rappel de l'histoire du site et de sa découverte ;
2. Un plan général du site ;
3. Un plan détaillé du temple de Ptolémée XII dédié à Min et Répit ;
4. Une analyse minutieuse de l'architecture et des inscriptions de la porte de Ptolémée IX ;
5. Une étude générale sur les mesures de conservation des monuments en calcaire du site.

First investigated by a British mission in 1906/07, excavations on the monumental site of Athribis in Upper Egypt were resumed by the S(...)h(...)(...) Inspectorate of the Egyptian Antiquities Organization in 1981 and conducted until 1996. In 2003, a German-Egyptian mission directed by the editors of this volume together with Christian Leitz, started a joint project devoted to the documentation and conservation of the Athribis monuments.

This volume is the fïrst archaeological report published in the Ifao séries devoted to the site. It contains :

1. A chapter on the history of the site and its exploration,
2. A gêneral plan of the site,
3. A detailed plan of the « Temple of Ptolemy XII » dedicated to Min and Répit,
4. An in-depth study and detailed documentation of the architecture and inscriptions of the « Gâte of Ptolemy IX »,
5. A comprehensive conservation study of the limestone monuments of Athribis.

Bereits 1906/07 von einem britischen Team untersucht, wur-den die Ausgrabungen im oberägyptischen Athribis 1981 vom Inspektorat S(...)h(...)(...) der ägyptischen Antikenbehörde wieder aufgenommen und bis 1996 fortgeführt. 2003 begann das von den Herausgebem dièses Bandes initiierte und zusammen mit Christian Leitz geleitete deutsch-ägyptische Grabungsprojekt seine Arbeit mit dem Ziel, die Dokumentation und Konser-vierung der Denkmäler von Athribis fortzuführen.

Der vorliegende Band ist einer von mehreren archäologischen Berichtsbänden, die in der eigens vom Ifao für die Publikation des Grabungsplatzes eingerichteten Reihe vorgelegt werden. Er umfasst erstmalig :

1. ein umfassendes Kapitel zur Geschichte und Forschungsgeschichte von Athribis,
2. einen Übersichtsplan des Fundplatzes,
3. einen steingenauen Plan des den Göttern Min und Repit geweihten Tempels Ptolemaios XII.,
4. eine ausführliche Dokumentation des Bau- und Inschriftenbestandes des Torbaus Ptolemaios IX.,
5. eine umfassende Untersuchungzur Konservierung der Kalksteinmonumente von Athribis.
