Le présent volume présente le résultat des fouilles entreprises entre 2012 et 2016 par l'université Eberhard-Karls de Tübingen en coopération avec le ministère des Antiquités au temple de Répit, construit par Ptolémée XII à Athribis, dans la province de Sohag.
La première partie s'intéresse aux difficultés du chantier, qui tiennent aux centaines de blocs massifs éparpillés, et fait le point sur les techniques et le matériel archéologiques utilisés. L'étude stratigraphique et archéologique du temple permet de comprendre son occupation à l'époque romaine tardive et au début de l'époque islamique. Les résultats les plus significatifs sont présentés par ordre chronologique pour chaque partie du temple. L'ouvrage s'achève par un compte rendu des fouilles effectuées par l'Organisation des antiquités égyptiennes (actuel ministère des Antiquités) entre 1981 et 1997.
The volume Athribis V presents the 2012-16 excavations of the Eberhard-Karls Universität Tübingen in co-operation with the Ministry of Antiquities in the Repit Temple, built by Ptolemy XII, which is located in Athribis in Sohag Province. The first account portrays the challenging working conditions due to hundreds of heavy, fallen temple blocks, then the formalities of excavation techniques and documentation. Since all large stone temples in Egypt were cleared by the early 20th century without paying attention to the archaeological deposits, the excavation in Athribis provided a unique opportunity to investigate the late Roman and early Medieval re-use of a temple. The most important results of each room are presented in chronological order in the next chapter. Several rooms with their respective archaeological features, finds, secondary installations, and architectural issues are then discussed. The volume ends with a review of the 1981-97 excavations of the Egyptian Antiquities Organization.
Athribis V stellt die von der Eberhard-Karls Universität Tübingen 2012 bis 2016 durchgeführten Ausgrabungen in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Ministerium für Altertümer im Repit-Tempel Ptolemaios' XII. in Athribis (Provinz Sohag) vor. Neben den herausfordernden Arbeitsbedingungen durch hunderte verstürzter, schwerer Tempelblöcke, werden Grabungstechnik und Dokumentation vorgestellt. Weil alle gro(...)en Steintempel Ägyptens bis ins frühe 20. Jh. freigelegt und die Verfüllschichten kaum dokumentiert wurden, bot sich in Athribis die einmalige Gelegenheit, die spätrömische und frühmittelalterliche Nutzung eines Tempels nach Aufgabe des altägyptischen Tempelkults zu erforschen, präsentiert in einem gro(...)en Kapitel mit den wichtigsten Befunden. Einzelne Studien widmen sich einzelnen Räumen mit den dort ausgegrabenen Befunden und Fundobjekten, sekundären Einbauten und architektonischen Fragen. Den Abschlu(...) bildet ein Rückblick auf die Ausgrabungen der ägyptischen Altertümerverwaltung 1981-97.
