The name BMW stands for sportiness, dynamism, high-tech, and designs characterized by a timeless yet functional elegance. People own a BMW for "sheer driving pleasure", as one of the advertising slogans of the Munich company puts it. The sporty image goes back a long way. It applies to the earliest products manufactured under the sign of the white and blue propeller in the early 1930s. Anyone who says BMW has legendary cars in mind, such as the pre-War 328, the 507 of the mid-1950s, and the M1 of the late 1970s, and can recount innumeberable motor racing victories up to and including Formula 1. BMW signifies not least the attemps to make ordinary folk mobile with the Isetta and the 700. They, too, are the subject of this book, a book which attempts to trace the origins of the marque, lost in the obscurity of the First World War.

Davon erzählt dieses Buch and spürt zugleich den Urspüngen der Marke nach, die sich im Dunkel des Ersten Weltkriegs verlieren.
Rainer W. Schlegelmilch studied photo design in Munich and opened his own photo design studio in 1964 in Frankfurt. Apart from advertising he also photographed Formula 1 and prototype rances which led him into the field of automotive engineering and construction. Often BMW touring cars or Nelson Piquet's Formula 1 Brabham BMW were at the front of the races - recorded, of course, by Schleglmilch's cameral
Hartmut Lehbrink was born in Dresden in 1938. He studied English and German philology in Geneva, Münster and Bonn, graduating in the late 1960s. He is the author of numerous articles in publications including auto motor und sport and ADAC Motorwelt.
Jochen von Osterroth joined World News in 1971 and became a Grand Prix reporter for rallye racing, RTL, sid, dpa and various daily newspapers. Four years later, as team boss and sponsor coordinator, he gained experience with the smallest Formula 1 team of all time with the driver Harald Ertl. Osterroth's first test car the BMW 2002 turbo.
Rainer W.Schleglmilch Studierte Fot-Design in München und eröffnete 1964 sein eigenes Studio in Frankfurt. Neben der Werbung fotografierte er schon damals Formel-1- und Prototypen-Rennen, geriet rasoh in den Bann automobiler Technik und Baukunst. BMW-Tourenwagen oder Nelson Piquets Formel-1-Brabham-BMW hat er dabei nicht selten als Sieger fotografiert.
Hartmut Lehbrink wurde 1938 in Dresden geboren. Et studierte englische und deutsche Philologie in Genf, Münster und Bonn und legte Ende der sechziger Beiträge für Publikationen wie auto motor und sport order ADAC Motorwelt.
Bereits 1971 wurde Jochen von Osterroth Mitarbeiter von World News und Grand-Prix-Reporter be... rallye racing, RTL, sid, dpa und Tageszeitungen. Den Rennspoet kennt et aus der Innenansicht : Als Teamchef und Koorinator der Sponsoren sammelte er 1975 Erfahrunger beim kleinsten Formel-1-Team ailer Zeiten mit Fahrer Harald Ertl. Osterroths erster Testwagen : en BMW 2002 turbo.
Rainer W. Schlegelmilch ouvre son propre studio de creation photographique en 1964, à Francfort, après avoir suivi des études de photographie à Munch. Parallèlement à ses activités publicitaires, il commence à photogrphier dès cette époque, des courses de Formule 1 et de protatyes. Il se découvre alors une passion pour le monde de l'automobile. Il a un faible pour les BMW de tourisme qui s'illustrent régulièrement sur les cirouits. Quand Nelson Piquet remporte, en 1983, le championnat du monde de Formule 1 sur une Brabham BMW, Schlegelmilch est la pour immortaliser la scène.
Hartmut Lehbrink a auivi des études de phiologie anglaise et allemande à Genòe, Münster et Bonn. Il a longtemps ecrit pour des magazines tels que auto motor und sport et ADAC Motorwelt.
Jochen voh Osterroth rejolnt en 1971 World News puis il est reporter sur les Grands Prix pour rally racing. RTL, sid dpa... et la presse quotidienne. Quatre ans plus tard it est chef d'equip... au sélin de la plus petite ecurite de Formule l de tous les temps avec le pilote Harald Ert....
