Avec ce premier numéro des Cahiers, la Fondation Gilles Caron, dont la vocation est de valoriser et de pérenniser l'oeuvre de ce photographe, ouvre un nouveau chapitre. Son objectif est de traiter, à chaque publication, d'un thème précis, afin de lever le voile sur un aspect spécifique du travail de Gilles Caron, de nous éclairer sur son regard, de mieux mettre à jour son approche.
Un Cahier sera proposé à chaque fois qu'une découverte - fruit du travail de recherche de la Fondation - ou un événement - lié ou non à l'actualité - le justifiera. La Fondation ambitionne ainsi de mener un travail de fond sur les questions multiples que soulèvent le corpus photographique de Gilles Caron, sans s'interdire d'élargir ses recherches ou ses réflexions à des photographes, des oeuvres ou des thèmes qui se rapportent à son travail.
Ainsi, la découverte récente d'un ensemble d'Ektachromes très peu diffusés est à l'origine de cette première livraison. Ces clichés en couleur de Gilles Caron, connu avant tout pour son travail en noir et blanc, éclairent d'un jour nouveau son rapport à la prise de vue, et donc notre relation à son oeuvre. La rédaction de ce premier Cahier a été confiée à Michel Poivert, conseiller scientifique de la Fondation Gilles Caron. Spécialiste de la photographie et de son histoire, il s'est appuyé sur trois entretiens pour interpréter la relation de Gilles Caron à la couleur.
À l'occasion de la parution de ce Cahier, à l'initiative de la Fondation Bru, mécène attentif qui soutient la Fondation Gilles Caron, un accrochage d'une série d'images couleur et une journée d'étude sont organisés à Venise.
The launch of Les Cahiers opens a new chapter in the history of the Gilles Caron Foundation, whose prime purpose is to promote the work of Gilles Caron and ensure its long-term relevance. This journal aims to cover a specific topic in every issue, to reveal an aspect of Caron's work, provide insights on his vision and update his approach.
A new issue will be published every time a discovery from the Foundation's research, news or event calls for one. The Foundation's ambition is to carry out an in-depth investigation into the many questions raised by Caron's photographie oeuvre, without ruling out a wider focus on other photographers, bodies of work or themes linked more or less directly to his work.
In this way, the récent discovery of a group of little-known Ektachromes has led to this first publication. These color shots by Caron, who is known above ail for his work in black and white, shed new light on his relationship with photography and therefore our relationship with his work. Michel Poivert, scientific advisor to the Gilles Caron Foundation and a specialist of photography and photographic history, was asked to direct this first issue. He has drawn on three interviews to interpret Caron's relationship with color in these photographs and more widely.
To mark the launch of this issue, and on the initiative of Fondation Bru, an attentive sponsor of the Gilles Caron Foundation, a showing of color images and a workshop will be organized in Venice.
