Edition préparée par Édouard Langille Pastiche, imitation mais surtout une continuation du plus fameux conte de Voltaire, Candide, seconde partie reprend le rythme endiablé et certains des thèmes du premier. On y raille Leibniz, Descartes et Newton; on y reproche à Pascal de nous faire haïr nos semblables. Cette seconde partie de Candide, assurément, n'a pas la force et le pétillement de la première, mais elle est pleine de verve et de gaieté.
Critical edition and introduction by Édouard Langille Pastiche, imitation but also a continuation of Voltaire's most celebrated tale, Candide, seconde partie picks up many of the original's themes. Leibniz, Descartes and Newton are gently mocked; Pascal is accused of trying to make us hate humankind. If it cannot begin to compare with Voltaire's masterpiece, the tale is nonetheless an amusing and instructive imitation.
