Chamonix Mont-blanc welcomes more visitors than almost any other mountain area in the world. It's fame has grown continuously since the invention of tourism and the discovery of the Mer de Glace by scientist-explorers during the Enlightenment.
Ever since, the magnificent mountain scenery of Mont Blanc, the Aiguille du Midi and Montenvers has amazed, delighted and fascinated one and all. Peaks and glaciers are right there, seemingly within arm's length, just above the small town that has grown in the heart of the valley.
People come to Chamonix to meditate, to walk, to see, to relax, to ski, to climb, to run, to fly... as if all life's flavours were concentrated in this uniquely varied place.
