Crossfading est une performance sonore participative.

Crossfading fonctionne à partir d'un enregistrement binaural dont la particularité physiologique est de provoquer des décalages de fréquences intra-auriculaires successifs, ce qui permet d'accélérer ou de ralentir les ondes cérébrales de telle sorte que l'esprit reste éveillé et le corps endormi. Bien que progressivement transporté dans un monde onirique, l'auditeur reste en pleine possession de ses facultés cognitives, il rêve tout en étant conscient de rêver.

Crossfading a été présenté lors de séances collectives depuis 2004, aux États-Unis, au Vietnam, au Japon et en Angleterre - Comme si Loris Gréaud voulait plonger le monde entier et ses consciences dans un profond sommeil. Définitif ?

Cette oeuvre est désormais portative : l'ouvrage réunit les enregistrements d'un IRM du cerveau de l'artiste sous l'effet de sa propre création, renvoyant à nos propres hémisphères cérébraux sollicités au cours de l'écoute de cette expérience rare. Le CD qui l'accompagne contient l'enregistrement live de la dernière performance, réalisée au Whitney museum of american art de New York le 20 novembre 2006.

Crossfading operates on a binaural recording its physiological characteristic is to cause shifts in successive ear frequencies, which can speed up or slow down brain waves so that the mind remains awake while the body is asleep. The accompanying CD contains the live recording of the final performance, played at the whitney museum of American art in New York, november 20th, 2006.
