Erwin Blumenfeld (1897-1969) is one of the twentieth-century's most influential fashion photographers. An experimenter and innovator, his photographs are rich in hybrid imagery melding celebrities, eroticism, saturated colour and black-and-white graphics. He is best known for his advertising campaigns and his fashion photography for American Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.
Michel Métayer is the director of the Toulouse School for Fine Arts in France. A Germanist by training, he has lectured widely on art and literature and has curated exhibitions both in France and abroad, including two shows on Blumenfeld's photographs.
