The Handbook of European Union is an abridged version of the fifth edition of Access to European Union, previously published under the title of <>. It is designed as a practical manual for all students of European integration : academic students, lawyers specialising in Community law, economists wishing to acquire the latest information on the various economic activities in Europe, historians wanting to understand the recent history of the continent, or businessmen seeking to extend their undertaking's activities in the large European market.

The Handbook analyses all aspects of European integration : the method, the different stages and the institutions. It also covers all the main policies of the European Union in fields such as, the social and regional, industry, research, transport and agriculture. Finally it examines the relations of the Union with its citizens and with the rest of the world.

The reader is guided into further research and study of the subjects of his particular interest, by hundreds of references to the Official Journal of the European Union and more than 300 bibliographic references, selected by subject.
