From 1535 onwards, a very large Protestant presence developed in our region. It covered parts of the Périgord, Guyenne and the upper Agen area, resting principally on the towns of Bergerac, Castillon, Mussidan, Eymet, Sainte-Foy-La-Grande and Lalinde, and on a number of châteaux, such as Beynac and Monbazillac. All of these were strongly marked by the Protestants, their historic influence still clearly evident today.

Historien né en 1969, diplômé de la Sorbonne à Paris, il est spécialiste de l'histoire des religions. Il a publié deux ouvrages chez Actes-Sud sur les relations entre Méditerranée et Europe et les conflits au Proche-Orient. Périgourdin, il travaille depuis 10 ans sur la Réforme protestante en Vallées de la Dordogne, Guyenne et Agenais.

Emmanuel Español
Historian (b. 1969), graduate of the Sorbonne in Paris, he specialises in the history of religions. Has published two books (with Actes-Sud), on « the dialogue of civilisations » and on the Middle East conficts. A native of the Périgord, he has worked for 10 years on the Protestant Reformation in the Dordogne valley, Guyenne and the Agen region.
