Kition-Bamboula VIII. Le port de guerre de Kition

De 1984 à 1999, la mission archéologique française de Kition, dirigée par Marguerite Yon, a conduit des fouilles extensives au nord du sanctuaire de Bamboula. Ces fouilles ont révélé les restes d'un hangar à trières d'époque classique, parmi les mieux conservés en Méditerranée, qui ouvrait au nord sur un bassin portuaire fermé. Cet ouvrage propose une étude détaillée et transversale de cette découverte exceptionnelle : le bâtiment est replacé dans son paléoenvironnement (à l'échelle locale et régionale), ses différentes phases d'utilisation sont datées, son architecture est soigneusement décrite et restituée pour les parties manquantes (élévation). On interprète enfin l'importance de ce port militaire dans l'histoire de Kition, de Chypre et de la Méditerranée orientale, à l'époque du royaume classique (IVe siècle av. J.-C.) et au début de l'époque hellénistique. Le volume est complété par une étude du mobilier céramique d'époque impériale découvert dans le comblement du bassin.

From 1984 to 1999, the French archaeological mission of Kition, under the supervision of Marguerite Yon, conducted extensive excavations to the north of the Bamboula sanctuary. These excavations revealed the remains of shipsheds of the Classical period, among the best preserved in the Mediterranean, which opened to the north on a closed harbour basin. This book offers a detailed and cross-cutting study of this outstanding discovery : the building is contextualized in its paléoenvironment (both at the local and regional levels), the chronology of its different phases is established, its architecture is carefully described and restored for the missing parts (superstructure). Finally, we assess the importance of this military harbour for the history of Kition, Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean, at the time of the Classical kingdom (4th century BC) and at the beginning of the Hellenistic period. The volume is completed by a study of the ceramics from the Roman period discovered in the filling of the basin.

Olivier Callot
ancien directeur de recherche au CNRS (HiSoMA, MOM, Lyon), est architecte. Il a été impliqué dans la fouille de nombreux chantiers en Grèce et au Proche-Orient. À Chypre, il a travaillé sur les sites de Salamine et de Kition (Kathari et Bamboula), dont il a en particulier étudié l'architecture sacrée.
Il a également publié plusieurs travaux concernant la numismatique chypriote.
Sabine Fourrier
directrice de recherche au CNRS (HiSoMA, MOM, Lyon) est archéologue, spécialiste de l'histoire de Chypre à l'époque des royaumes (XIIIe-IVe siècles av. J.-C.). Elle est, depuis 2008, directrice de la mission archéologique française de Kition (MEAE-HiSoMA). Cet ouvrage est le troisième qu'elle codirige dans la série Kition-Bamboula.
Marguerite Yon
ancienne directrice de recherche au CNRS (HiSoMA, MOM, Lyon) est archéologue, spécialiste de Chypre et du Proche-Orient au Bronze récent et à l'âge du Fer. Elle a dirigé les missions archéologiques de Ras Shamra-Ougarit (Syrie) et de Salamine et Kition (Chypre), ainsi que les publications de ces fouilles.
Olivier Callot is a former senior researcher at CNRS (HiSoMA, MOM, Lyon) and an architect. He has been involved in the excavation of many sites in Greece and the Near East. In Cyprus, he worked on the sites of Salamis and Kition (Kathari and Bamboula), where he especially studied sacred architecture. He has also published several works on Cypriot numismatics.
Sabine Fourrier is a senior researcher at CNRS (HiSoMA, MOM, Lyon) and an archaeologist. She is specialized in the history of Cyprus at the time of the kingdoms (13th to 4th centuries BC). She is, since 2008, the director of the French archaeological mission of Kition (French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs-HiSoMA). This is the third book she publishes as co-director in the Kition-Bamboula series.
Marguerite Yon is a former senior researcher at CNRS (HiSoMA, MOM, Lyon) and an archaeologist. She is specialized in the archaeology of Cyprus and the Near East in the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age. She has directed the archaeological missions of Ras Shamra-Ugarit (Syria) and Salamis and Kition (Cyprus), as well as the publications of these excavations.
