La collection « Ateliers d'Artistes » a pour objet d'introduire le lecteur au coeur de la création de l'artiste : vivre le travail de celui qui invente des formes et des objets, en suivre la démarche, apprendre à lire son oeuvre représente la plus précieuse et la plus difficile des entreprises. C'est ce que propose chacun des livres de cette collection. Abondamment illustrés, ils dévoilent l'atmosphère d'un atelier ou d'un lieu autour d'entretiens qui restituent la pensée de l'artiste, peintre ou sculpteur.
L'atelier parisien de Carlos Cruz-Diez, situé dans le Paris haussmannien, dégage une atmosphère frénétique à laquelle la famille et les assistants ne sont pas étrangers. S'affairant autour de la figure du Maestro et répartis entre les différents espaces ils participent au bon fonctionnement de l'entreprise familiale également implantée à Caracas et Panamá. Depuis ses débuts, Cruz-Diez a envisagé son atelier tel un microcosme au sein duquel famille et pratique artistique cohabitent. Au coeur de cette effervescence Cruz-Diez aspire à partager avec le plus grand nombre sa fascination pour la couleur qu'il n'a cessé d'étudier depuis bientôt soixante ans.
The collection « Ateliers d'Artistes » has as it's objective the introduction of the reader to the core of the artistic act. It proposes to enable the rigorous and exalting enterprise of living in the work of the one who invents forms and objects, of following the creative process and learning how to read an oeuvre with insight. Each of the books of this collection is an invitation to such an undertaking. Abundantly illustrated with photographs that reveal the atmosphere of a site, each book relies on conversations which restitute the painter or sculptor's thoughts.
The pervading atmosphere in the Parisian studio of Carlos Cruz-Diez, located in a typically Haussmannian district of the French capital is one of tremendous energy, and the artist's family and assistants are no strangers to it. Everyone stationed in the various sections of this family-run enterprise with annexed studios located in Caracas and Panama, busies themselves around the Maestro, ensuring it is run efficiently. Cruz-Diez has always looked upon his studios as a microcosm in which family and artistic creativity happily coexist. It is within this stimulating environment that Cruz-Diez aspires to share his 60-year long fascination with colour, reaching out to as wide a possible audience as he can.
