La chaîne du mont-blanc
À la demande d'alpinistes suisses qui, comme leurs camarades français, italiens et internationaux, ne disposaient pas d'une carte suffisamment précise du massif du mont-blanc et de l'organisation de sa géographie, un ingénieur et un alpiniste helvètes ont allié leurs compétences et leurs talents pour produire à la fin du XIXe siècle cette première représentation topographique mesurée et calculée de bout en bout de main d'homme, en ne reculant devant aucun sommet. pour l'anecdote, le mont blanc est ici étalonné à 4 810 m, contre +/- 4 808 m selon les dernières mesures orthométriques par satellite ou par lidar, lesquelles varient selon l'enneigement.
The Mont-Blanc Range
At the request of swiss mountaineers who, like their french, italian and international comrades, did not have a sufficiently precise map of the mont-blanc mountain range and the organization of its geography, a swiss engineer and mountaineer combined their skills and talents to produce atthe end of the 19th century this first topographic representation measured and calculated from end to end by the hand of man, without omitting any summit. forthe record, mont blanc is calibrated here at 4,810 m, against +/- 4,808 m according to the latest orthometric measurements by satellite or lidar, which vary according to the snow cover.
