Quand son portrait d'Eric Clapton fait la couverture du magazine Rolling Stone en mai 1968, Linda McCartney est la première femme à avoir cet honneur. Considérée comme la plus grande photographe de la scène musicale de la fin des années 1960, elle immortalise sur pellicule la plupart des stars de l'époque, notamment Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Simon et Garfunkel, The Who, The Doors et les Grateful Dead. En 1967, Linda part à Londres pour photographier les « Swinging Sixties », rencontre Paul McCartney au club Bag O'Nails et finit par prendre les Beatles en photo lors du lancement de l'album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Paul et Linda tombent amoureux et se marient le 12 mars 1969. Pendant les trois décennies suivantes et jusqu'à sa mort, elle se consacrera à sa famille, au végétarisme, à la protection des animaux et à la photographie.
De ses premiers portraits rock'n'roll, jusqu'aux dernières années des Beatles, en passant par les tournées avec les Wings et l'éducation de quatre enfants avec Paul, Linda a immortalisé tout son petit monde sur la pellicule. Ses clichés vont des instantanés de la vie de famille aux images de sessions d'enregistrement avec Stevie Wonder et Michael Jackson, ou des portraits d'artistes comme Willem de Kooning ou Gilbert et George. Cette grande rétrospective sur Linda - avec une sélection de ses archives de plus de 200 000 images - a été réalisée en étroite collaboration avec Paul McCartney et leurs enfants. A ce titre, cet ouvrage peut être considéré comme un journal intime émouvant et un grand hommage au talent de Linda.
In May 1968, with her portrait of Eric Clapton, Linda McCartney entered the record books as the first female photographer to have her work featured on the cover of Rolling Stone. During her tenure as the leading photographer of the late 1960s musical scene, she captured many of rock's most important musicians on film, including Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Simon et Garfunkel, The Who, The Doors, and the Grateful Dead. In 1967, Linda went to London to document the « Swinging Sixties », where she met Paul McCartney at the Bag O' Nails club and subsequently photographed The Beatles during a launch event for the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. Paul and Linda fell in love, and were married on March 12,1969. For the next three decades, until her untimely death, she devoted herself to her family, vegetarianism, animal rights, and photography. From her early rock 'n' roll portraits, through the final years of The Beatles, via touring with Wings to raising four children with Paul, Linda captured her whole world on film. Her shots range from spontaneous family pictures to studio sessions with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, as well as artists Willem de Kooning and Gilbert et George. Always unassuming and fresh, her work displays a warmth and feeling for the precise moment that captures the essence of any subject. Whether photographing her children, celebrities, animals, or a fleeting moment of everyday life, she did so without pretension or artifice.
This retrospective volume - selected from her archive of over 200 000 images - is produced in close collaboration with Paul McCartney and their children. As such, it is a moving pcrsonal journal and a lasting testament to Linda's talent.

Linda McCartney (née Eastman) est née à New York en 1941. She died of breast cancer in 1998 at the age of 56.

He worked with Linda McCartney on Roadworks (1996), Light from Within (2001), and her exhibitions at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford and the ICP in New York. He has published widely on photography and on the paintings of Francis Bacon.
