Quatrième de couverture

From rugged coastline to lush countryside, from enchanting gardens to cozy kitchens, and from legendary châteaux to charming small hotels, Living in Normandy depicts the many faces of a beautiful and diverse region that assumes a central role in Européan history. Known as the garden of France and just a stone's throw from Paris and London, Normandy is a French region with something for everyone : history, nature, hearty cuisine, artisanal crafts, rustic style, and culture.

From the bustling fishing port of Honfleur with its narrow slate-roofed houses to the meandering streams inland where cattle roam in emerald-green fields, Normandy is a region of varied landscapes. In Living in Normandy the authors encourage readers to saunter along dramatic shorelines, stroll through linseed fields, wander the cloistered grounds of monasteries, forage through flower and vegetable gardens, and explore lavish castle grounds.
Normany is renowned for its gardens whether they be classical parks in the French style with geometrical flower beds, water gardens such as Monet's famous water lilies at Giverny, humble kitchen gardens, or harmonious gardens inspired by English design.
But the best way to get to know Normandy and its people is to step into their homes. The authors take the reader on a very personal tour of some of the most stylish houses in the region. From elegant seaside villas and Renaissance castles to stone cottages and modern barns, the houses of Normandy display a huge variety of architectural styles. Their warm and inviting interiors in mineral and earth tones feature wood and terracotta.
A visit to Normandy would not be complete without sampling some of the local specialties such as Camembert, Cotentin oysters, crème fraiche, and brioche, washed down with calvados or cider.
Living in Normandy also includes an indispensable "useful information" section, which provides the visitor with a guide to the region's best accommodation, restaurants, and stores with insider tips on where to find an intimate timbered bed-and-breakfast, a hotel perched on cliffs with ocean views,. or a simply blissful apple tart.

Front cover : Half-timbered houses in the fishing village of Veules-les-Roses.
Back cover : A mullioned window in the drawing room of La Maison du Bois des Moutiers and the entrance hall in painter Yuri Kuper's home.
