Méandres du Mississippi
Fruit d'une commande en temps de guerre du Corps du génie de l'armée de terre des États-Unis, cette carte toute de sinuosités colorées est l'oeuvre d'un cartographe extraordinairement méticuleux, Harold Flsk. Parcourant et étudiant pendant trois ans les rives du cours inférieur du Mississippi avec un collègue géologue et géographe, Richard Russell, il en a rapporte le portrait superpose de tous les états du fleuve depuis les débuts du Pléistocène, il y a 2,5 millions d'années, jusqu'aux interventions humaines des temps présents.
Mississippi Meanders
The result of a wartime commission from the Us Army Corps of Engineers, this map, filled with colourful twists and turns, was the work of the extraordinarily meticulous cartographer Harold Flsk. After travelling and studying the banks of the lower Mississippi for three years with fellow geologist and geographer Richard Russell, he brought back a superimposed portrait of all the states of the river from the beginnings of the Pleistocene, 2.5 million years ago, to the human interventions of present times.
