High in the Chablais Haute-Savoie, Morzine and Avoriaz sit on the Franco-Swiss border at the heart of the world's largest ski network : the Portes du Soleil. But Morzine is more than a celebrated winter sports venue : its old town fans out from the church with buildings and lanes almost unchanged since the 18th century. As for Avoriaz, the boldly designed car-free resort offers a tranquil winter and summer retreat. It was recently awarded listed status as a "Grande Réalisation du Patrimoine du 20ème siècle".
