Nothing In My Pockets was originally a sound diary, conceived for the Atelier de Création Radiophonique de France Culture, that was kept between July 4th and October 4th, 2003. In that new and innovative experimentation, Laurie Anderson unfolded her daily life as an artist, microwaved it and presented herself as more than a diarist: she became the electronic sound architect of her own existence.
The sound diary that Laurie Anderson presents here also offers unpublished visual documents through the pages of a book. The opportunity is for an intimate journey into the personal universe of the artist through a series of daily leaps: from her New York studio in Tribeca to the numerous travels and landscapes she crossed over the whole three month period.
Laurie Anderson started her career as an experimental sound artist (electro pop) and singer with the record O Superman which propelled her into the British charts as soon as it was released. Egeria to the Velvet Underground, she is an incontestable figure of the New York artistic scene.
For twenty years now, Laurie Anderson has been using electronic means - sounds and images - to weave her unique artistic expression. In recent years she has taken part in the creation of the opening ceremony for the Athens Olympic Games, in Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan, and collaborated on a commission for the Opera Garnier in Paris with Trisha Brown. Artist-in-residence at NASA from 2003-2005, she is currently preparing her 2009 World Tour. www.laurieanderson.com
