This is the story of the 29th Armoured Brigade, engaged for the first time during operation Goodwood, seen through the eyes of the veterans, who take us along through their poignant accounts.
The author has sifted through nearly 400 pages of reports supplied by Sandhurst through Simon Trew and presents an extremely accurate account. It was also a gargantuan effort to reveal unpublished material about the biggest tank battle in Normandy.
In order to give his readers some new pictures on this subject, Didier Lodieu has rummaged around among the Imperial War Museum Archives and brought out some impressive shots taken by three war reporters.
Born near the banks of the River Seine in 1957, Didier Lodieu was profoundly marked as a youngster by the accounts from civilians who experienced the German retreat in August 1944.
Keen to enlarge on what he knows he has questioned more than 500 veterans, from the simple 2nd Class to the General, in order to bring the readers their eye-witness accounts and personal viewpoints on this period.
