From Joseph Inguimberty to Alix Aymé, from Nguyễn Phan Chánh to Vũ Cao Ɖàm, by way of Mai Trung Thứ and Lê Phồ - teachers or students - they drew, painted, sculpted, worked with lacquer, and exhibited. Directed by Victor Tardieu and then Evariste Jonchère, the school enjoyed a period of rich artistic emulation between 1925 and 1945 and was the instigator of the modern art revival in Vietnam.
With ten years of research and expertise behind her, Charlotte Aguttes-Reynier traces the careers of the key players of this period in this richly illustrated and documented volume.
