Ce document réunit la version française des principales communications du séminaire "Planification du développement territorial", organisé par le Cirad et l'Université fédérale de la Paraíba à Campina Grande en septembre 1999. Le séminaire porte sur l'approche territoriale du développement rural au Brésil et en France. La première partie traite des concepts et des approches territoriales du monde rural brésilien. La seconde présente des études de cas reprenant les quatre grandes lignes de l'approche territoriale du développement : (a) filières, produits, qualités et spécificités des territoires ; (b) gouvernance locale, décentralisation ; (c) emplois, revenus et diversification des activités rurales ; (d) gestion de l'innovation. Les débats et travaux de groupes ont permis d'identifier de nouveaux axes de recherche qui sont résumés en conclusion.
This document is the French version of the main papers presented at the seminar "Planning regional development", organized by CIRAD and the Federal University of Paraíba in Campina Grande in September 1999. The seminar focused on the regional approach to rural development in Brazil and France. The first part deals with territorial concepts and approaches in rural Brazil. The second part presents case studies which illustrate the four major characteristics of the regional approach to development : (a) sectors, products, qualities and specificities of the region ; (b) local governance, decentralization ; (c) employment, income and diversification of rural activites ; (d) managing innovation. As a result of the debates and work groups, new areas of research were identified and they are summarized in the conclusion.
