Quatrième de couverture

The Scenarios project has produced a reference scenario for European transport in 2020. Medium and long term trends were identified and analysed for the key variables of the transport system : external factors, determinants of demand and supply and the transport policy variables. A review of strategic transport modelling was undertaken to provide recommendations for further research. The complexity of European and national decision levels was also discussed for the definition of a policy scenario.

Scenarios research was divided into 4 main work areas : Socio-economic and spatial environment affecting transport, transport demand and supply for passenger and freight markets, a review of modelling, European and National policy context with a reference trend policy scenario.

This book has been written as a result of the work of the following consortium built for Scenarios, in the 4th framework project of the European Commission, under the coordination of the authors. Authors thank this consortium for the quality of the contributions provided.
