The eve of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an appropriate moment to remind ourselves how much human rights are part of a universal heritage that was collectively and patiently put together, often after bitter struggles and immeasurable suffering. It is a heritage that is in permanent danger due to its fragile nature, and therefore requires our constant vigilance. Regards sur les droits humains - Focus on Human Rights underlines both the strength and the fragility of this edifice through the reflections of a variety of eminent men and women including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, Nobel Peace Prize laureates Shirin Ebadi and Jimmy Carter, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Micheline Calmy-Rey and the Swiss writer Adolf Muschg.
