Quatrième de couverture

The clandestine radio operators

It is important to honour those who paid the ultimate price for Freedom in the battle which was fought on the radio waves between 1940 and 1944 : the clandestine radio operators. Facing a highly agressive German opposition, the « pianists », both men and women, had a terribly short life expectancy : less than six months....

For the first time, the training those operators followed in the United Kingdom is explained in details as well as the genuine stories of the day-to-day life of five of those heroes.

This book also presents the clandestine radio equipment that allowed covert agents to send their messages from deep inside occupied France first to London and then, from 1942 on, to Algiers. Those radio equipment, some of them very rare, are presented as never before in full detailled colour pictures.

Biographie

The son of a Resistance fighter, a close friend of several veterans of this period, Jean-Louis Perquin has previously authored several articles on the uniforms of Allied special agents parachuted into occupied territories during the Second World War. Having established a network of numerous historians and museum curators in the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway and France, it is with passion but also a lot of humility that he set off to write this first title of the Résistance book collection.
