Un coproduit est une matière, intentionnelle et inévitable, créée au cours du même processus de fabrication et en même temps que le produit principal. Le produit fini principal et le coproduit doivent tous les deux répondre à des spécifications de caractéristiques, et chacun est apte à être utilisé directement pour un usage particulier.
Les coproduits sont aussi caractérisés par leur valorisation économique : marché spécifique du coproduit en question, cotation...
A by-product is a material that is intentionally and unavoidably created during the same manufacturing process as the primary product. Both the finished primary product and the by-product must meet certain specifications, and it is possible for both to be used for a particular purpose.
By-products are also characterized by how they are valued economically : a specific market for the by-product in question, listed value, etc.
