Santos Hernández est sans doute le luthier espagnol de guitares le plus créatif et le plus important de la première moitié du XXe siècle. Comme contremaître de l'atelier de Manuel Ramírez, c'est lui qui a fait en 1912, la célèbre guitare jouée pendant tant d'années par Andrés Segovia. Ses instruments ont été également adoptés par d'autres grands guitaristes de son temps comme Regino Sainz de la Maza, Luise Walker, Sabicas, Ramón Montoya, Niño Ricardo, Celedonio Romero, Abel Carlevaro... Par son admirable travail, il a amené la beauté sonore des guitares d'Antonio de Torres au XXe siècle.
Santos Hernández is undoubtedly Spain's most creative and most important guitar luthier from the first half of the twentieth century.
It was Santos who in 1912, while working as a foreman at Manuel Ramirez's workshop, built the famous guitar that would travel the world with Andrés Segovia for years to come. Santos' instruments were also adopted by other great guitarists of his day, like Regino Sainz de la Maza, Luise Walker, Sabicas, Ramón Montoya, Niño Ricardo, Celedonio Romero, Abel Carlevaro...
Through his loving hands, the beautiful sound attained by Antonio de Torres was brought into the twentieth century.
