The cinquantenaire tapestries

This book is the critical catalogue of the European tapestries preserved in the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels. The current collection comprises 163 tapestries that date from the end of the fourteenth century right up until 1980. The majority were woven in the Southern Netherlands, with others originating in France, Germany, Holland, Italy and England. The collection is considered one of the most important in Europe, embracing tapestries designed by the likes of Bernard van Orley, Michiel Coxcie, Peter Paul Rubens, Jacques Jordaens, Charles Le Brun, François Boucher, Lodewijk van Schoor, Paul Haesaerts, Jean van Noten, Edmond Dubrunfaut, Constant Montald and Floris Jespers.
