The story of esci kits, 1967 - 2000
In Italy, modelling began during the 1960s with a few companies like Artiplast (initially Plastic Toys), Aliplast (which became later Italaerei, then finally Italeri) and ESCI. ESCI actually brought many innovations to the world of modelling with the first wide-scale distribution of additional decal sheets, the first large scale military motorcycles, the first European 1/72 AFV models, the first to issue multiple variants of the same model with different detail parts or markings, the first (and so far only) kits of large-scale fighter aircraft cockpits among other innovations.
The actual origins of ESCI can be traced to before WWII when it was incorporated as the « Ente Scambi Coloniali Internazionali » - Company for Trade with the International Colonies.
