Ladies in Love

Toppi

From the Roaring Twenties to the Swinging Sixties, female voices became essential to the song world. In the United States, singers like Connie Boswell, Ruth Etting, Annette Hanshaw and other Twenties' sweethearts would conquer any man they met, with delicacy, elegance, freedom and sincerity shining out through every song. And by the dawn of the Sixties, thirty years later, the musical maturity and inner strength of women's voices would be trademarks in jazz. This collection represents both periods, and the songs restore the styles of these singers to their rightful place as the very definitions of what made the Fifties and Sixties a true Golden Age in vocal jazz.
