This book features five sites in the Lyon region that are the foremost symbols of 20th century architecture, offering readers the chance to get right to the heart of the architectural and urban Modernist Movement : from its pioneering avant-garde phase in Villeurbanne and Lyon through to its peak in Firminy and Eveux, and later by the debate and renewal that resulted in the development at Givors. The sites reflect the 20th century trend for social and urban utopian developments, all the result of a firm conviction shared by avant-garde architects and visionary mayors that architecture and modern urban planning have an essential role to play in creating a better world.
