Quatrième de couverture

24h Le Mans®

91st edition

The 24 Hours of Le Mans offered us a fabulous spectacle for its centenary edition. It was a sell-out event that took place in front of no fewer than 325,000 spectators and the start was given by one of the biggest stars in the history of sport, basketball player, LeBron James. It has to be said that there was a bumper field on the grid with, in particular, five major manufacturers in the top-tier category, which had not been seen since 1999. Their cars were driven by stars including 13 former winners, 18 former F1 drivers and two victors of the Indianapolis 500.

Between race incidents and bad weather, no competitor in the running for overall victory was spared and all of them led the race at one moment or another. The no. 51 Ferrari 499P of James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Antonio Giovanazzi was locked in battle for victory with the no. 8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid for a long time. Finally, the Ferrari gave the brand its tenth victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the year it was making its comeback to the top-tier category in the 24 Hours of Le Mans after a 50-year break !

This 91st edition has already gone down in history thanks to the surprise victory of the no. 34 Oreca 07 entered by Inter Europol Competition in LMP2, and that of the no. 33 Corvette C8.R which made up two laps to take the chequered flag in GTE Am ahead of an Aston Martin and a Porsche. From the Test Day to the finish plus the complete presentation of the 62 cars and the 186 drivers, without forgetting the regulations or all the extra-sporting events, our experts tell you the full story of the event in this official book through texts embellished by hundreds of photos, each one more beautiful than the next !

Biographie

Thibaut Villemant
He has been a car buff ever since he was a kid and attended his first 24 Hours of Le Mans aged five ! After studying at Nanterre University in the Parisian region, he joined AutoHebdo in 2009. He became a leading reporter and assistant chief editor up until June 2021. During those years Jean-Marc Teissedre took him under his wing and in 2014 asked him to join the team of writers working on the official annual of the Sarthe twice-round-the-clock race. Today, Thibaut works as a consultant for the L'Équipe TV channel on the WEC races - including the 24 Hours of Le Mans - while collaborating with the benchmark site Endurance-Info.com and hosting a Youtube channel dedicated to car enthusiasts called Once Upon A Car.

Jean-Marc Teissedre
Scale-models led the young teacher to discover his true vocation and he became one of the best - if not the best - endurance racing specia-lists. His new calling coincided - and it was no coincidence - with the launch of AutoHebdo in 1976 ! He remained faithful to the magazine throughout his career and it made him into a major figure in the milieu. However, his day job didn't prevent him from investing his talent and enthusiasm in all the major books dedicated to his speciality, including this annual since 1978 on which he's worked with the late Christian Moity, Alain Bienvenue and Thibaut Villemant. In addition to his rigour as a true professional he brings the meticulousness of a model maker, which he's always been, to his work, as he also created the monthly revue Auto Modelisme and only relinquished the role of its chief editor a short time ago.
