Dans cet entretien avec Pierre Doze, il revient sur sa formation initiale d'ébéniste, son enfance, la genèse de ses principales réalisations, ses toutes premières éditions... Et, tandis que la notion de design se fait de plus en plus impalpable, il affirme, ici, avec force et engagement, son attachement au processus industriel. Aux origines même de la discipline.

His Chair_ONE, the aluminium seating framework, has already entered the pantheon of emblematic chairs in the history of furniture. It is an indisputable milestone in the aesthetics of the 2000 decade, as well as the reflection of a deliberately radical initiative. Project after project, Konstantin Grcic constructs one of the most consistent paths through contemporary design. In this interview with Pierre Doze, he discusses his original training as a cabinet-maker, his childhood, what lies behind his most important achievements and his very first designs. And since the concept of design is becoming ever more impalpable, he asserts here, forcefully and with commitment, his attachment to the industrial process that is at the very root of the discipline.
Journaliste et critique, Pierre Doze enseigne l'histoire et la théorie du design à l'école des Arts décoratifs de Strasbourg (Esad). Il a monté plusieurs expositions sur Philippe Starck en Russie et en Pologne et participé à Small Talk avec Konstantin Grcic, au musée des Arts décoratifs, à Paris en 2007. Il a collaboré à KGID, Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design aux éditions Phaidon et à Les Années Staudenmeyer, 25 ans de design en France, aux éditions Norma.
The journalist and critic, Pierre Doze, teaches history and theory of design at the School of Applied (École des Arts décoratifs - ESAD) in Strasbourg. He has curated several exhibitions on the work of Philippe Starck in Russia and Poland and taken part in Small Talk with Konstantin Grcic, at the Musée des Arts décoratifs, in Paris, in 2007. He has contributed to KGID, Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design published by Phaidon and more recently to Les Années Staudenmeyer, 25 ans de design en France, by Norma Editions.
