Mémorial international de Notre-Dame-de-Lorette
Situé à proximité de la plus grande nécropole nationale française de la Première Guerre mondiale, et posé au sommet du plateau de Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, s'élève aujourd'hui le premier Mémorial international, réunissant les noms des 600 000 combattants tombés sur les champs de bataille du Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Ces noms sont gravés par ordre alphabétique, sans distinction de nationalité, amis et ennemis d'hier mêlés.
Les auteurs ont souhaité replacer le Mémorial dans son contexte historique et géographique, paysager et monumental :
Pour donner une forme à la fraternité, Philippe Prost a choisi l'anneau comme figure, en pensant à la ronde que forment ceux qui se tiennent par la main, anneau synonyme à la fois d'unité et d'éternité...
Situated near the largest French National Necropolis, and dominating the plateau of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, there now stands the first ever International Memorial, bringing together the names of 600,000 soldiers who fell on the battlefields of the Nord - Pas-de-Calais. These names are engraved in alphabetical order, without any distinction of nationality, yesterday's friends and enemies mingled together.
The authors wished to situate the Memorial in its historical and geographic context, to understand it as both landscape and monument :
To give a shape to brotherhood, Philippe Prost chose the figure of the ring, thinking of the circle that is formed when people hold hands, the ring which is the symbol of both unity and eternity...
Unweit der grö(...)ten nationalen französischen Nekropole zum Ersten Weltkrieg auf der Hochebene von Notre-Dame-de-Lorette steht nun das erste internationale Memorial, das die Namen jener 600 000 Menschen auflistet, die auf den Schlachtfeldern des Nord - Pas-de-Calais gefallen sind. Diese Namen sind in alphabetischer Reihenfolge ohne Unterscheidung von Nationalität eingraviert, Freund und Feind von damais vereint.
Seine Erschaffer stellten das Memorial bewusst wieder in seinen historischen und geographischen, landschaftlichen und monumentalen Zusammenhang :
Um der Brüderlichkeit eine Form zu geben, hat Philippe Prost die Figur des Ringes ausgesucht, des Kreises, in dem die Menschen einander an den Händen haltend tanzen ; der Ring als Synonym für Einheit und Ewigkeit zugleich...
