Quatrième de couverture

Africa has a unique window of opportunity to accelerate its progress towards emergence. Its potential is exceptional, on the human front - with its population of over one billion inhabitants - as well as on the agriculture, mining or energy fronts. However, its ambition for development cannot become reality unless the challenges of sustainable human development and of adaptation to climate change are taken into account.

This book, published with the support of the United Nations Development Programme, highlights these challenges as well as the potentials and best practice options, specifically in the African case, which ail converge to promote better environmental governance and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.

This publication advocates an integrated and multi-track approach which is capable of promoting planned and inclusive Transformation Strategies that will mobilise both Africa's driving forces as well as those of the Continent's partners. It also highlights the options and progress made in terms of promotion of sustainable agriculture, water management and renewable energies, waste collection and recycling, mainstreaming of construction materials adapted to the climate and locally available, as well as the promotion of green employment. Finally, it values innovative technological solutions as well as funding models which are better adapted and more accessible.

Through the analysis and approach it offers, this book is a work of reference aiming to achieve better comprehension and appreciation of what is at stake, as well as a tool for the promotion of fine-tuned public policies.
