Quatrième de couverture

The Quercy blanc

When visiting the Quercy Blanc, the most striking impression is that of a region far from the frenzy of our times, preserved as much in the beauty of its landscapes as in the richness of its architectural heritage. If you wish to discover the Quercy Blanc, take your time to really appreciate it, to imagine a past which is present at all times, at every bend in the road.

How can we resist the charm of windmills with their majestic sails, the proud bastides built on rocky outcrops, the « white mantle of churches » built as early as the 12th C., the crosses to be found everywhere, the pigeonniers adorning most rural properties ? Stone is omnipresent, in the ground, in the walls. In a countryside full of nuances from causses to deep valleys, hills planted with vines and wooded pechs still criss-crossed with dry-stone walls, nature has kept all the rights to this land. You will not escape being charmed by this area where time passes and nothing perishes !

Biographie

Begun in 1990 by the architect and art-historian Gilles Séraphin, the collection of guide-books « Tourisme et Patrimoine » brings together a comprehensive inventory of architectural and rural sights to be found in the Lot and Quercy region of France. This modest yet prestigious little corner is too often overlooked. It bears witness to the pain and suffering, the dreams and hopes of past generations. Discover it once more - and never forget.
