The success of its reconstruction after the Second World War is widely acknowledged the city was recently awarded the « Heritage of Reconstruction » certificate. The pale local Caen stone buildings reflect a golden hue that further adds to the city's elegance. William the Conqueror's home town has retained a wealth of architectural evidence that highlights its glorious past. Norman Romanesque and classical art find their fulfilment here.
